The children come to SFODA due to a number of reasons, such as their parents suffering from HIV/AIDS, drug use or mental illness, often in combination with severe poverty.
Before accepting the children, SFODA first helps and supports them to stay with their extended families.
The children living in the center are ageing from newly born to 24 years. The goal is to reintegrate the children at the age of 18, but to ensure that the transfer is secure and successful, this can be delayed.
In order to achieve its goal, the Care center carries out the following activities:
- Providing a safe and caring haven for the children.
- Providing the children with sufficient lodging and food.
- Supporting the children to attend public school and, if possible, higher studies.
- Providing the children with in-center schooling adjusted to their skills and age. The classes conducted are English for beginners, English intermediate, English advanced, French for beginners, French advanced and Khmer/mathematics.
- Providing the children with computer training.
- In cooperation with the ICP Program and HIV/AIDS related with Drugs Program providing the children with vocational training. Classes conducted are Metal Sculpturing and Painting.
- Providing karate-do training 2 times a week, as a recreational activity for the children.
- Operating a soccer team as an activity for the children.
- Providing the children with limited healthcare.
- Supporting older OVC to find employment and to reintegrate into the society.
- In order to support the costs of the Care Center, operating a foster parent program.
Some of the activities are also open to OVC living in the community.
The center is partly financed by CED (Cambodge Enfance Developpement) and the foster parent program, but also relies on private donations. Some of the activities are also supported by All Japan Karate-do Federation, JVC Kyushu network and Languagecorps.
Other SFODA programs:
